The Hermanus Ratepayers Association (HRA) would like to appoint to its Executive Committee a member who is able to give input on legal issues which arise from time to time. There are three facets:
The first is the body of legislation governing the functioning of Municipalities.
The second is the legislation governing environmental and land use matters.
The last is the matter of municipal by-laws.
From time to time the HRA is in a position to comment on how these various legal facets affect the lives of ratepayers and how they impact on the environment in which we live and the lifestyle which we strive to preserve. An example of how all three of these legal facets come together is in the opposition to the proposed Bypass through Hermanus.
What we have in mind is a retired or non-practising lawyer who is willing to devote some time and energy to advising and representing the Exco on the matters mentioned above. As is the case with all our office bearers this is not a paid position but rather an opportunity to assist in preserving the character of Hermanus.
Our meetings and engagements with one another are friendly and congenial and based on mutual respect. We don’t restrict our interactions to meetings only and are in contact on an informal and ongoing basis. Although we often deal with serious matters, we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
Exco meetings take place on a monthly basis and usually take about 2 hours.
If you are interested in contributing towards maintaining the character of Hermanus please call Brian Wridgway on 076 941 8065.
The HRA is a community based organisation that represents and fosters the interests of ratepayers and residents in Hermanus in their engagement with the municipality.
